Job Description
Overview
My client is a leading specialist in Mechanical and Electrical design, construction, and installation services. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will support and work closely with the Commercial and Project Delivery teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. You will be involved in all aspects of commercial and contractual management, playing a key role in the financial success of our M&E projects.
Responsibilities
- Implement and support the company’s commercial strategy across assigned projects
- Assist Senior Quantity Surveyor (SQS) and Managing QS (MQS) in delivering all commercial functions
- Prepare, review, and submit tenders; analyse subcontractor bids, negotiate and finalise subcontract orders
- Manage financial and commercial performance of subcontractors through to Final Account settlement
- Maintain accurate site records, including site measurements and variations
- Assist in preparing commercial forecasts, budget targets, and cost value reconciliations (CVRs)
- Prepare and agree monthly valuations and applications for payment
- Monitor and update projected Final Accounts in line with ongoing project progress
- Prepare and agree variations with proper records and backup documentation
- Liaise with and support the construction team on commercial matters, providing advice and challenge where necessary
- Protect the company’s commercial and contractual position at all times
- Maintain involvement in CVRs and maintain an independent, commercially aware perspective
- Identify and assess project risks and opportunities from a commercial standpoint
- Assist in cash flow management and ensure positive cash position through effective control of applications and payments
- Provide input into tendering and pre-construction activities as required
- Supervise and support Assistant Quantity Surveyors (AQS) and Trainee Quantity Surveyors (TQS), reviewing and ensuring quality of their work
- Take part in maintaining site control documents and records relevant to the commercial function
Qualifications
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in M&E contracting or similar environment
- Strong understanding of construction contracts (NEC, JCT, etc.)Experience managing subcontract packages and cost reporting
- Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills
- Proficient in MS Excel and commercial software (e.g., COINS, Causeway, or similar)
Day-to-day
- Reviewing project plans and technical specifications
- Attending meetings with project stakeholders to discuss cost-related matters
- Analyzing construction drawings and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates
- Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain pricing for materials and services
- Updating project cost reports and tracking financial performance
- Coordinating with the project team to address any cost-related challenges and provide solutions
